Switching gears because weather is imminent,  will already test your limits. The last thing you should be doing is designing a plan b, hours before the start of your event.
How should you plan for weather related changes?  Think shelter, food service, and flow.
Our professional planners will ensure transitions, such as these, are carefully curated.

SHOULD I TRUST ONE STAR REVIEWS

I am writing this as a result of receiving my FIRST one star review since opening our doors, It was like a knife in my chest! I read it over 10 times trying to make sense of the incident. We believe bad reviews are a teachable opportunity, so we take them seriously, but this was a total bash fest.

How do you know when a review is biased? The honest answer is, we never really will. The best advice I can give, is to do your homework. I know I say that ALL the time. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it.

If you're like me, when deciding where to eat, see a show, find a place to crash... (especially when traveling) I look to yelp, the bbb, trip advisor and other sites dedicated to business reviews. For the most part, I look at the pictures and the first 3 or 4 reviews. If a review intrigues me, I dig in, so to speak, Narrowing down my choices to 3 or 4 helps me decide. Then all that's left is to experience it myself.

Testing the waters is not an option when it's your wedding. Reviews become our window into a company's soul. Having said that, reviews tell us three things, 1-who the consumer is, 2-who the business is and 3-what customers SAY they have experienced. It is your job to find out if the gripe is real, perceived or was handled satisfactorily.

I say... TRUST that you can find intel from reviews. Prepare your questions and contact the business. Express your concern over negative reviews and listen to what they have to say. Sometimes a business won't even know the review exists until you tell them about it. Like in my case.
For the record I disputed that review and it was subsequently taken down by the blog it was submitted to. It was determined that the reviewer was never a customer of ours, nor did they have proof they ever contacted us. They also mentioned in their review how wonderful our competitor was and that everyone should go to them instead. OUCH!

Top Ten Must Haves in a Planner

6/4/2014

Hiring a professional

We've rounded up the top 10 MUST haves in a planner,
according to our awesome clients
and top ten checklists everywhere.

What you should expect from your planner

  1. Prompt responses TOP the list. When calls and emails are returned in a timely manner it alleviates a lot of anxiety.
  2. Experience. Does she KNOW the venue and expectations of the vendors? THIS is vital. What is okay...what is not.
  3. Location, Location, Location. What if you planned it all in our head, based on that white strip of beach where you met, only to find out right before the wedding you cant put up a structure because it's not permitted?...What's the alternative?
  4. The Budget...dun dun dun....perhaps this should be number one? Realistically we care what "it" costs.  So having someone who knows your limit and is prepared to get what you want, within those limits, is not just a want but a NEED.
  5. Vision. Is it your vision...or theirs? Who cares if it's NOT fashionable. Is it what YOU want?
  6. Compassionate. This did not make the list but it was noted in nearly every response...so we decided it should be on OUR list..."she was like part of the family, or we became my friends". Having someone to lean on and even vent to (in a good way), can keep the stack from blowing.
  7. Focus. Sometimes the sought after, busy ones don't have quality time for you.
  8. A List Keeper. You want to be able to call your planner to see if you paid for this or that, so make sure you got all the candles or even if the permit arrived. How well organized is your planner?
  9. Driven. I know, I know...why else would she be a planner, right? What this means is how passionate is she about what she does? Is this just a Jay Oh Bee?
  10. A Listener.  Sure they all hear what you said and even took notes. someone who listens will notice the subtleties or nuances.

...but it can sure ruin your vision

What would YOU do in case of rain? No doubt about it...HAVE A BACK UP PLAN!  It is extremely stressful when the skies open up, and all you have planned for is sunshine.
A good...NO... an experienced planner, will have plan B just as tight as plan A. Something we do at HIE

  • How will the alternate space look?
  • Can you install all the items you booked in your package?
  • If not what are the alternatives?
  • How much notice is needed to advise vendors of the change in venue?
